The standard technology of the Weight Doctors SLEEVE® contains nickel. People with a nickel allergy were therefore denied a permanent stomach reduction without surgery for a long time – even with a BMI well above 40. With OverStitch NXT™ from the manufacturer Boston Scientific, there is a second technological basis that manages entirely without nickel.

OverStitch NXT™ is applied “from the inside out”: via the mouth and oesophagus, inside the stomach. This endoscopic stomach reduction therefore manages entirely without a surgical operation. Special threads are firmly stitched to the inner stomach wall and gather the tissue along the greater curvature, the outer curve of the stomach. The stomach takes on the shape of a gastric sleeve and becomes up to 75% smaller; this is why it is also called a “gastric sleeve without surgery”.

Scientific studies show that the sutures reduce the volume of the stomach and also its ability to stretch after eating; hunger usually returns only much later. In terms of restriction, OverStitch NXT™ is no less effective than other technologies: in some cases we even observe somewhat greater reduction. How pronounced it is depends mainly on the number of threads.

Among the technologies for endoscopic stomach reduction, OverStitch NXT™ has been comprehensively studied scientifically. Today’s medical understanding is based on experience from more than 100,000 procedures; the technology is used in almost all major industrialised countries.

What results are possible?

Compared with pose® 3.0 Double Helix, effectiveness is similar, tending possibly to be somewhat better: after 6–7 months, most patients lose about half of their excess weight. With a higher BMI, the effect is somewhat stronger still. About 5% do not reach the intended weight reduction with this procedure either.

Both technologies are part of the Weight Doctors SLEEVE®; both reduce the stomach from the inside by gastroscopy, without an incision and permanently – and both cost the same. Why are there two technologies? We follow the manufacturers’ strict requirements and use a technology only if there are no medical reasons against it. OverStitch NXT™ has thereby closed the gap for people with a nickel allergy and is now also gladly chosen without an allergy.
