How pose® 3.0 Double Helix reduces the stomach

The endo sleeve with pose® 3.0 Double Helix is an endoscopic stomach reduction, also called a “gastric sleeve without surgery”. As in a gastroscopy, an endoscope is passed through the mouth into the stomach. With a special apparatus, tiny anchors and special threads, the stomach wall is first folded and then sutured along the entire length of the stomach. The anchor system is patented by the US company USgi Medical.

Two things happen in the stomach: it is narrowed, that is, it becomes significantly narrower in its curved width, and it is shortened. Together, these considerably reduce the stomach volume – at most, only about 25–30% of the former volume remains. Small amounts can then be enough to feel full sooner, stay full for longer and so eat less.

The procedure takes place in a single endoscopic session under general anaesthesia. The stomach reduction is designed for the long term. pose® 3.0 Double Helix is used in the Weight Doctors SLEEVE® when, following medical assessment and with a view to your goals, there is nothing against it.

What defines pose® 3.0 Double Helix

How the treatment works

The procedure usually takes 30–45 minutes, rarely up to 1 hour:

  1. Endoscope through the mouthUnder general anaesthesia, as in a gastroscopy, an endoscope is passed through the mouth into the stomach – in a single session, with no external incision.
  2. Folds in length and widthWith a special apparatus, the stomach wall is laid into folds along the entire length of the stomach.
  3. Anchors and threadsTiny anchors and special threads hold the folds: the stomach wall is sutured from the inside.
  4. Shape of a gastric sleeveIn the end, the stomach has the shape of a narrow tube and holds considerably less than before.

After the procedure: the first weeks

For the sutures in the stomach to grow in firmly, the first weeks are crucial. This is what the path typically looks like:

Careful information before the procedure

pose® 3.0 Double Helix is well tolerated; complications are rare and can usually be treated without further surgery. Nevertheless, the endo sleeve is a medical procedure. It requires special information and the assessment of whether it is indicated by a specialist who specialises in endoscopic stomach reduction.

What results are possible?

Clinical studies show that patients with pose® 3.0 Double Helix lose, on average, more than half of their excess weight, after a little more than half a year. The BMI of the patients observed fell on average from 37 to 30.

The technology does not quite reach the success rates of a surgically created gastric sleeve. Measured against the risks and the time off work, however, it is a good choice for many. Results vary from person to person: what matters is how consistently you follow the recommendations of nutrition counselling and exercise therapy – Weight Doctors® 360° nutrition coaching helps with this.

What the new generation does better

pose® 3.0 Double Helix is the consistent further development of the pose® technology of the US company USgi Medical, the first permanent stomach reduction without a surgical operation. The aim was an even more restrictive approach that supports weight loss more specifically – without jeopardising the safety of the proven technology.

The difference at its core: the original pose® procedure reduced the stomach only at its entrance and exit, pose® 3.0 Double Helix along its entire length. The new generation is quick and easy to use; because it is less invasive, discomfort after the procedure can also be milder. Studies also report that patients with the new generation lose weight about 2–3 months faster than with the first.

What exactly is pose® 3.0 Double Helix?

A technical platform: special, patented equipment made up of instruments and material. With it, in the Weight Doctors SLEEVE® we create an endo sleeve, that is, an endoscopic stomach reduction.

How long does the procedure take?

Usually 30–45 minutes, rarely up to 1 hour. It is carried out under general anaesthesia as part of a gastroscopy.

Do I have to stay in the clinic after the procedure?

An inpatient stay is generally not required. For your safety, however, we recommend staying in the clinic for 1 night for observation.

Will scars remain?

No. The stomach is sutured exclusively from the inside; the abdominal wall remains untouched.

What may I eat after the procedure?

In the first 3 weeks, a special liquid diet is recommended. After that, you build up your diet step by step with accompanying coaching until you are eating without restrictions again – only in smaller portions.

From what BMI is pose® 3.0 Double Helix an option?

In the endo sleeve from a BMI of 27, in the Extended Sleeve and Extended Sleeve+ at a BMI of 35–49. People with a BMI above 40 or a weight-loss goal of considerably more than 25 kg may also be eligible.

What distinguishes pose® 3.0 Double Helix from the first pose® generation?

The original pose® procedure folded the stomach only at its entrance and exit and reduced it by about 30%. pose® 3.0 Double Helix gathers it along its entire length, by up to 70–75%, and is less invasive.

Is pose® 3.0 Double Helix suitable for people with a nickel allergy?

No, the material contains nickel. For people with a nickel allergy, the Weight Doctors SLEEVE® offers the nickel-free OverStitch NXT™.

Does the stomach reduction last a lifetime?

It is designed for the long term. Because the procedures have a modular design, the stomach can be reduced further later if needed. Whether the weight stays down in the long term depends mainly on your diet and exercise.

What risks are there with pose® 3.0 Double Helix technology?

Complications are rare and can usually be treated conservatively, that is, without further surgery. Minor bleeding at the suture site in the stomach, bruises (haematomas) and injuries to the stomach or oesophagus may occur. Despite its minimally invasive nature, the endo sleeve remains a medical procedure with risks.

What weight loss can I achieve with pose® 3.0 Double Helix technology?

It has been observed that almost 95% of patients lose a double-digit percentage of their body weight in the first 6 months. Results vary from person to person.
