Treatment with medication

Each individual metabolic disorder of metabolic syndrome can be treated with medication in its own right. In doing so, however, the doctor must take great care not to intensify any of the other components. There is no medication against metabolic syndrome as a whole. If metabolic syndrome is recognised in good time, treatment with medication may be unnecessary under some circumstances: exercise and a healthy diet are the foundation of prevention and therapy.

A healthy diet against metabolic syndrome

A healthy diet means above all moderate food intake. It is not about sticking to diets such as the cabbage soup, protein or glyx diet for a week or two: only a long-term reduced food intake can combat metabolic syndrome. In this way, fat and sugar in the blood fall, the concentration of HDL cholesterol rises in parallel, and blood fat levels improve further. Less sugar and fat in the blood also means less arteriosclerosis – so a healthy diet also has a positive influence on high blood pressure.

Just as the cycle of metabolic syndrome was set in motion, it can also be broken – only in the opposite direction. The motto is: eat less. What sounds simple is hard for those affected to put into practice. Because of insulin resistance, the cells take up less glucose and constantly send hunger signals to the brain. In addition, people with excess weight have unconsciously increased their food intake over the years and need larger amounts to feel full.

Despite great motivation, many of those affected therefore stick to diets only briefly – the constant feeling of hunger wins out sooner or later.

One possible way: endoscopic procedures for weight loss

Anyone who wants to break out of the cycle of metabolic syndrome has to get the feeling of hunger under control. Endoscopic procedures such as Weight Doctors SLEEVE® or the gastric balloon reduce the capacity of the stomach – without medication and without conventional surgery. The balloon, for example, fills a large part of the stomach, which can lead to a feeling of fullness sooner. In this way, the excessive feeling of hunger can ease.

On average, Weight Doctors patients lose between 10 and more than 30 kg, depending on the procedure. Such a weight reduction can markedly improve blood values.

Results vary from person to person.
